The "Utopia" league is a country within BuzzerBeater specifically created to house “second teams”, which are managed by existing users from all around the world: your first club always plays in a real country, and only then can you found one here. We wanted to give people a chance to participate in an engaging league if they feel they are not being challenged enough in their own league. Other users that feel that they can prove their managerial prowess by having another team and building it from the ground up also may find this feature interesting.
The Utopia league indeed provides a very competitive environment, as it's filled with proactive managers with experience and ambition. A second team is reserved for Supporters: every manager runs one club, and a Supporter may found one more, in Utopia or in another country where he doesn't have a club yet. The “Utopia” league is the same as any other country, except for some specifics mentioned below. This means it has its own flag, its own cup and its own players.
Here are some of the most important specifics of the new feature:
Organization
Utopia is organised like every other country: leagues of 16 teams in two conferences, stacked in divisions. A new Utopia team takes over a computer-run club in the lowest division, as it would anywhere else, and climbs from there. At the end of each season, the computer-run clubs of a division are the first to make room for the managed clubs coming up from below, so the higher divisions fill up with human teams as the country grows.
Supporters Only
A second team is one of the privileges of being a Supporter. Supporter status belongs to your account, not to a club, so both of your teams enjoy the Supporter features. Keeping second teams for Supporters serves the country's main goal: Utopia should be a highly competitive place in which every manager has a strong incentive to remain very active, and managers who support the game tend to be serious about their second team.
National Team
The Utopia league does not have its own National Team, as the country is composed of managerial talent from all over the world.
B3 Participation
Utopia's clubs are invited to the BuzzerBeater's Best like any other country's: its division I champion and the winner of the Utopia Cup, from the very first season. There is no rule forcing you to choose: if both of your teams qualify, both take part.
Transfer Market and Draft
The Utopia league has its own players drafted each season. These players can be sold to and bought by all teams in BuzzerBeater without restrictions, and the “Utopia” teams are free to buy and sell players from all other teams, with one exception: none of your clubs can bid on a player that another of your clubs owns now, or has owned since you took it over.
Visibility
Your manager profile lists all of your clubs, and when you take over a second one, the club you have held the longest announces it in its league's Headlines.
Scrimmages
Utopian teams can engage in scrimmages as normal, one a week like every club. There is no special limit on games between your own two teams.
Cheating
If a manager is banned from the game for violating BuzzerBeater’s rules of conduct, BOTH the original and the Utopian team will be locked, regardless of which team violated the rules.
New Manager Bonus
A Utopia team is a new club like any other, so it receives the new manager bonus during its first weeks, however experienced its manager is.
Game Times
Utopia keeps its own clock, like every country: its games are played at Utopia's game times, on UTC−8, whatever country your first club plays in. For many managers that means the middle of the night or the early morning, so check your Calendar, which shows every tip-off in your own time zone. We believe the proactive managers of Utopia league won’t have any problems handling this.
Promotion and Demotion
Utopia promotes and relegates exactly like every other country: see Standings for how the playoffs and the relegation series work.
